the fun pub. the shot was taken while we were having
a barby at tim's place (american guy who ran the windsurf
hut back then).

still scanning negs to find shots worth posting from 91
here's a couple more - oh look it's ssssssssnake again
in the first one! (fun pub)
in the second shot over on the left in the ios club t-shirt is
an american guy (can't remember his name) who played
guitar and sang in a few of the bars on ios in 91 and
possibly earlier. some of you may remember him. he was
extremely good. the greek guy in the front was from athens
and was brought in by alex (then the owner of the fun pub)
as DJ for the club next door to the fun pub.

ok i have a few pics ready to post. most are people shots
and coming soon are a few which must be considered to be
of an adult nature - so if you are likely to be offended
(bad luck) look no further! a couple of tame ones to start with -
the nicely tanned guy at the front of the first shot is me !!
sssnake the third one is a particular favourite of mine!!
i told this girl that i really needed to get a shot of her tits
before she left the next day so..........well you can see
the result!

more to come soon!

i wonder if there are any people around who have any
tattoos to remember IOS by. it's something that i have
thought about for a while now. designing something
really good is the difficult part.
if anyone reading this has any tattoos dedicated to IOS
i would be very keen to see them.

back in '91/'92 most of the action at mylopotas beach was
centred around the old far out cafe which was situated at
the closest end of the beach. now i believe that this has
somewhat changed with the far out club being at the other
end. here's a shot looking down from the steep donkey
track taken in '92. just to the right as you approach the beach
is the IOS Palace hotel which if you can afford it would be an
ideal place to stay.

this shot is of some people who i spent quite a lot of time with
back in '91. it was taken during one of the many beach parties
that we had back then.

this shot was somewhat typical of the goings-on in IOS during
my stay! these two were hard at it down on the beach right in
front of where the old far out cafe once was. i always had my
camera with me in '91 so i just couldn't resist this one !!

during the summer of '92 i worked for a time at the red lion pub
which was situated up a sort of ramp just up the hill from the
sweet irish dream (on the way to mylopotas beach). i believe
it was later renamed the parachute in more recent times.
anyhow several of us were hired as touters for the red lion
and our plan was to start up touch rugby games down at the
beach during the afternoons to attract the aussie/kiwi/south
africans and anyone else who might want to have a friendly game
on the beach. we made a lot of friends this way and of course
we would plan to meet them later that night up at the red lion.
one of the special attractions at the red lion was the showing
of videos of past state-of-origin games between NSW and QLD.
these were of course a great hit with the punters and a source
of amazement to many americans who couldn't believe that
these players would batter each other without much in the way
of padding to protect themselves.
one memorable night was in '92 when denmark won the european
cup final. the place was jammed full of danes going wild watching
their team do the business. there were many nights like this, i
wish i could remember them all but i guess most of the time i was
in an alcohol induced daze - one day blending into the next.
as many people know leaving IOS is very hard to do when you're
having such a good time. we used to joke about those who would
say they were leaving the next day only to find that they just couldn't
do it. it was one of the great lies of IOS! another was that some girl
would meet up with you later at a certain place in the village and of
course was nowhere to be seen! aaahhh the memories!!

at the moment i'm putting together a loose plan to travel to
IOS in late june/early july of 2005. this is a fairly ambitious
plan as there (hopefully) will be three of us going and getting
the money together to make this happen will not be that easy.
one of the other guys was in IOS in 97 and the other has not
been but has been constantly earbashed with our stories!
we would be flying directly to athens from sydney and catching
the ferry/hydrofoil? straight to IOS. this will be like a hit and run
dash for about 2 weeks of IOS mayhem. watch this space!

i've changed the look of this page to hopefully make it a little
easier to read and added the address to my home page for
anyone who might be interested. my day job is as a motorcycle
courier in melbourne and i'm heavily into photography although
you will find that my IOS shots from '91 are not really of high
quality. i was using a "point-and-shoot" film camera which i
carried with me everywhere in '91 and got some pretty funny
stuff. now i just have to find what i did with most of them!

this is what the village looked like in '91.
i don't think it would have changed that much from this view.
no doubt there have been some changes especially down at
mylopotas beach. when i was there most of the action was
out the front of the old far out cafe. i believe now that has
gone and has been reborn as the far out club at the other end
of the beach.

over the coming days/months i will be posting pics and stories
of my time in IOS. i hope that this blog will eventually reach
a large number of IOS lovers from not only the time that i was
there, but also those from before/after and anyone who is
thinking of visiting IOS sometime in the future.
please feel free to contact me with your comments/stories and
if anyone recognises a person in one of my shots i would be
keen to know of their current whereabouts and how to contact
them etc.

i spent two long summers living, drinking and sometimes working on IOS in 1991 and 1992. i will never forget those times and one day just maybe i will be back there to revisit the place that was once my second home.
