I managed to get out and about this afternoon with the camera
even though i'm suffering from a migraine at the moment.
The GX is a little querky but has lots of plusses along with that!
Most of the controls are set out very well and are quick to access.
It starts up quicker than anything else out there and stays at
the previous settings which is brilliant! Unfortunately the
screen at the back is not as good as i'd like and is sometimes
a little misleading. Occasionally i think i've stuffed up a shot
only to find that when i bring it up on the computer it's ok.
Overall so far i'm pleased with it and i should think that as i
become more accustomed to it's ins and outs it will only get better.
A few from this afternoon -

And here is my now famous testing shot which i have used
with quite a few different cameras (film and digital) again
with no sharpening and only resized in PS -

Still testing the GX - trying out a few different settings to get the
setup how i want it. There are a couple of tricky things about this
camera. It does suffer a bit from CA (chromatic abberation) which
essentially is purple fringing. Also a general feeling that it gives a
purplish cast to most images so it's best to shoot with the white
balance set to cloudy even in bright sunlight. I'm still experimenting
with this and perhaps a custom white balance will be the way to go.
I've also turned off the in-camera sharpening which tends to over-do
it somewhat. Here's a shot taken this morning with no sharpening
at all only resizing in PS -

A very busy day at work today being the last day of the month.
I didn't get much chance to shoot but i did get a few in mostly
just snaps to test out the new GX -

Another with the GX this time ISO200 handheld at 1/15th sec -

Sold the S45 this morning and picked up a Ricoh Caplio GX
this afternoon after weighing up the pros and cons.
It's not quite as robust as the S45 was but hopefully it will
stand the test of time!
Here are a few test shots - the first is at ISO64 and the
next two at ISO1600. Still pretty usable i think!

Well it looks like my S45 will finally be sold tomorrow!
It's been a great camera to carry around with me and
has lived every day in the pocket of my motorcycle jacket.
I'm only selling it because i want something with less
shutter lag. I'm still not 100% sure what i will replace it
with, but at the moment it looks like it will be the Ricoh
Caplio GX. That one has (at this moment) the least lag
and has an ISO range of 64 - 1600. Stay tuned!

I've been pretty busy these last few days so i haven't had
much chance to shoot. I did manage to grab one today
with the crappy pda cam -

It was mum's birthday today so we had lunch at Daisies
with the family and then did the birthday cake thing later
at home -
